Bruce Watkins is the President and CEO of CAL PRESERVING, Inc. He started the initial version of the company (West Bay Wood Care) in 1987 while attending the University of California at Berkeley (Cal). His major was Bio-Resource Science and he was perusing a medical career at the time. He spent 5 years working for the Cal Football Team as a student trainer and assistant to the training staff. For two years during the summers between attending school he worked as a deck carpenter. He became a highly skilled deck builder and this is where he got the idea to start a deck preserving business. Since then, Bruce has combined his skills in the field of deck construction with the knowledge he has gained from observing what makes decks fall apart (for the last 25 years) to build one of the most well-rounded deck (and any exterior wood) preserving companies in existence. CAL PRESERVING can now address nearly all factors that affect, not only the beauty of your wood, but its life expectancy. Bruce is keenly aware of the fact that he owns and runs a business. RINSING: By using jet pressured water, all shampoo is extinguished from the rug. This process is important because shampoo residue left in the foundation could cause damages to the wool. CONDITIONING: Wool is much like human hair, conditioning allows for the luster and softness to be enhanced as well as revitalizing colors in the rug. DRYING: After sending the rug through a ringer, it is hung in our drying room for an 8 hour period. This allows for all moisture to be released to again avoid any risk of dry-rot. FRINGE CLEANING: The fringe is given separate attention, a through soap and rinse leaves the fringe sparking white. BRUSHING: A through brushing is done to enhance the softness and consistency of the pile.
